Mommy Got Water?

It has been amazing to me to repeatedly see the proven success of telling a guest of New Life Ultrasound if we are getting cloudy 3D pictures of her baby, to go home and drink at least 64 ounces of water (medical industry standard) a day to return for a clearer image. The results are very unofficial, meaning I am not an expert. However I have read a great deal about hydration, alkaline versus acidity in the body and understanding how a dehydrated body is unhealthy and will be revealed in many ways. Thanks to Melissa Gavin who allowed me to use her pictures of Matthew at 30 weeks, poorly hydrated and Matthew at 32 weeks, well hydrated after 2 weeks of drinking the physician recommended 64 ounces a day. No one can question the results of her baby’s pictures. We have had a great number of examples just like Melissa’s.

Kathy, my sonographer, will mention to our guests about eating fruits and vegetables. But mostly we focus on whether someone drinks water everyday to determine if we will be able to get clear images or cloudy images of the baby. If there is a shortage of water in a pregnant mother’s body, there is a shortage of water in the baby’s body. The amniotic fluid is crystal clear when someone is hydrated and cloudy if someone is not hydrated.

In my reading I have come across some very specific teaching about how vital it is to keep your pH level in balance. What exactly is pH? It is the measure of the degree of acidity or alkalinity of a substance-in this case the human body. For pH values, 1 is the most acidic, while 14 is the most alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral, which means it is right in the middle of the acid base scale and is neither acidic nor alkaline. The normal pH of human blood ranges from 7.35 to 7.45. When the body chemistry turns too acidic, we see many disorders and diseases develop. Dr. Foster wrote a great article on this topic that would help answer many questions about the effects of an overly acidic body. http://www.drfosteressentials.com/store/ph_bal.php

She writes about the foods and beverages causing excess acidity in the body and those promoting alkaline in the body. On the topic of beverages, caffeine further dehydrates the body. If you drink caffeine, increase or even double your water intake to counteract the effects of the caffeine.

The amount of water generally spoken of is 64 ounces per day. It will vary based on someone’s body weight. Whatever your weight you should drink half your body weight in ounces per day. So the 64 ounces is for someone who is 128 pounds. Water has no nutritional or medicinal value to cure disease. What it does is neutralize acid waste in the human body to liquefy them for elimination by the kidneys. In order to live long and healthy lives we must rid our bodies of acidic waste. Water helps flush out the toxins and therefore greatly assists in keeping the body healthy.

Our goal is to give our guests at New Life Ultrasound an amazing and irreplaceable experience to be treasured for years to come. It is important for our guests to know the role they play in the quality of the images we are able to get of their baby. I wanted to write this article to emphasize the value of drinking water outside of just getting better pictures. We have had many guests return after drinking the recommended water per day and comment on how much better they feel in many ways.

Please do some reading on this topic if you are interested. See our FAQ's page at http://www.newlifeultrasound.com/faq.htm to see a great before and after example.  I am sure it will amaze you just like it amazed me on the difference water makes in our overall health. Try the theory in your body and judge for yourself. I can tell a difference when I am dehydrated versus hydrated and am glad to now have the knowledge.

Sincerely,

Monica Kirkland

Hi! I am Monica Kirkland, owner of New Life Ultrasound in Murrieta, California. I am absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of the New Life Ultrasound blog! Inthe vision for New Life Ultrasound I was hoping to be an encouragement and inspiration for other expectant mommies and to meet really dynamic women and men in the business community to make a positive impact. Those two goals have come to pass because I am very involved, hands-on and in the community many, many times per month. Another fabulous blessing which has occurred since we opened over 2 years ago is how many strong and loving friendships I have made by venturing into the business of 3D/4D ultrasound. Those friendships have really helped me by being an encouragement, edification, and supply to my life in a business setting but greatly on a personal level as well. I just pray I do a good job in reciprocating to those friends of mine all the love and encouragement I have received.

So now I venture into blogging! Woo Hoo! I have learned so much about the potential and benefits of blogging; however I have much more to learn. What is really exciting for me is to have a forum to expand on fulfilling the vision I mentioned above. My 4th baby, Wade Everett is due within the next few weeks. I absolutely love everything about bringing new life into the world. Each pregnancy and birth experience has been so wonderful and I have learned many great tips along the way. My babies, Cassidy (5), Smith (3), Braden (2), and Wade (arriving soon!) are so scrumptious! And of course, my awesome hubby, Jeff (I won't give his age!) is quite scrumptious too!

My blogs will be about pregnancy tips, baby progression in pregnancy, ultrasound awareness, mommy hood and career, and I will expand from there. I will also incorporate input from our guests of New Life Ultrasound, birth stories and possibly helpful information from my business friends. Please stay tuned for exciting, informative, fun-filled, and joyful blogs! At New Life Ultrasound we enjoy your pregnancy with you while creating special moments in time for you and your family.
